Our Mission

The Basket Historical Society maintains a museum and newsletter dedicated to the collecting, preserving and dissemination of historical fact and legend in the areas of Acidalia, Basket, East Branch, Eminence, Fernwood, Fishs Eddy, Fremont Center, French Woods, Goulds, Hankins, Handsome Hollow, Long Eddy, Lordville, Mileses, Obernburg, Pea Brook, Peakville, Rock Valley, Tennanah Lake and environs.

The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society in Manhattan helped the Basket Historical Society to preserve the records of Douglas City, and the Town of Fremont to preserve records from the early 1800s. We're grateful to have the early Fremont records and the now-extinct village of Douglas City records scanned and accessible online at the NYG&B's website. Here's information about the NYG&B's Digitization Initiative.
